How to estimate shower tile
A shower is several surfaces at once: three walls, a floor or pan, and usually a niche. Measure each wall as height x width, add the floor, and use a higher waste factor (15%+) because showers are cut-heavy around the niche, curb and fixtures.
Do not forget waterproofing — a membrane and backer board behind the tile are required in a wet area and belong on the quote as their own line item, not absorbed into the tile price. CraftTools keeps walls, floor, grout, thinset, waterproofing and labor as separate priced lines.
Frequently asked questions
How much waste should I add for a shower?
At least 15%, more with mosaics or a decorative pattern, because showers have many cuts around the niche, curb and fixtures.
Should waterproofing be in the tile quote?
Yes — membrane, backer board and corners are required in a wet area and should be separate line items. This calculator adds a waterproofing line.
