How to estimate roofing
Roofing is measured in squares, where one square equals 100 square feet of roof surface measured along the slope — not the ground footprint. Divide your total roof area by 100 to get squares, then add 10-15% waste for hips, valleys, starter course and ridge cap.
Most three-tab and architectural shingles come three bundles to the square. Enter your roof area, set your bundle price and your tear-off-and-install labor rate, and CraftTools builds a priced estimate you can hand straight to the homeowner.
